AUC'S Accreditation

AUC operates within the framework of a 1975 protocol with the Egyptian government, which in turn is based on a 1962 cultural relations agreement between the Egyptian and US governments. In the United States of America, AUC is licensed to grant degrees and is incorporated by the state of Delaware. AUC is governed by a board of trustees and is administered by a chief executive officer appointed by this board.

Accreditation is a mark of excellence indicating endorsement by peer reviewers. It is of the utmost importance to universities, especially in a global context where prospective students, faculty members, and employers view it as a measure of academic excellence and institutional quality. The adherent self-study process, which involves participants from every unit of the institution and focuses on all activities and services, is an opportunity to examine where the University and its programs stand in terms of achieving institutional goals and standards, to focus efforts on areas that need enhancement and changes, and to define new challenges in academic endeavors and organizational matters.

Global Institutional Accreditation

MSCHE The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) one of the most esteemed accrediting agencies in the United States. Recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, the MSCHE provides a thorough evaluation of universities based on rigorous standards of excellence. Accreditation by MSCHE signifies that AUC meets these standards, demonstrating our dedication to delivering a world-class education and the high quality of our academic programs, faculty expertise, student support services and institutional effectiveness.

National Institutional Accreditation

The American University in Cairo was the first University in Egypt to receive national accreditation fromNational Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education. NAQAAE is a government body created to establish quality standards for Egypt's best educational institutions in order to enhance the quality of education in Egypt.

ABET-accredited programs are recognized worldwide. Graduates of ABET-accredited engineering programs are eligible to register as professional engineers in many countries around the world, including the United States, Canada, and Australia, after passing the required examinations.

The Actuarial Science (BS) program and the Biology (BSc) program are accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the commission's general criteria.

Boasting an unrivaled reputation as the top private business school in Egypt and one of the best in Africa and the Arab world. The School’s foremost accomplishment is a seal of excellence achieved through the Triple Crown accreditation – placing the School among the top 1 percent of educational institutions worldwide to achieve the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditations.

Furthermore, Eduniversal currently ranks the School as the number-one business knowledge hub in the Middle East and Africa – with the School has been further granted five out of five Palmes of Excellence, which places it among the top 100 business schools worldwide, every year since 2012. The School is also the only Financial Times Ranked School in the Arab Region ranking 67th Business school worldwide in open-enrollment executive education programs (2020).

The School of Business received its initial impact label from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD)'s impact assessment tool––Business School Impact System (BSIS)––in 2019. BSIS is designed to determine the extent of a school’s impact on its local environment – the city or region in which it is located. The BSIS process is offered in collaboration between EFMD Global and the French Foundation for Management Education (FNEGE) as a service to EFMD members worldwide.

The programs of Master of Public Administration and Master of Public Policy at The American University in Cairo have been granted full accreditation for a period of six years by the International Commission on Accreditation of Public Administration Education and Training (ICAPA). ICAPA standards are developed by a joint United Nations/International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) task force which was initiated by the United Nations.

In addition, the two graduate programs are the first in the Middle East and the third outside the United States to receive accreditation from the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA). AUC is also the first institution outside of the United States with two accredited programs from NASPAA.

Moreover, The European Association for Public Administration Accreditation (EAPAA) has granted both programs full accreditation for seven years. EAPAA is the only quality assurance authority in public administration which is active throughout Europe. The MPA and MPP programs were the first two programs outside the Council of Europe to receive accreditation from EAPAA.

This completes the two programs' “Triple Crown”, first of its kind globally in the field of public service education.
