Khaled Kamel

Since joining AUC over a year ago, Khaled Kamel has headed the newly formed Campus Planning Office (CPO). Kamel's role is to materialize the University's strategic objectives for institutional development through exercising control and managing the University's built environment. He is the curator of the architectural style at both The American University in Cairo's (AUC) campuses. The New Cairo campus, with its unique experimental design reminiscent of the high Mamluk Islamic architecture and the late 19th-century interpretation of the Islamic architecture of the Tahrir Square campus. His role is central in the strategic development of the future extension master plan, upgrades of the learning spaces, and design guidelines for the development of the AUC workplace and new off-campus students and faculty residents. Kamel holds a master’s degree in architecture design in its expression of societal identity from Cairo University, an MBA in supply chain management in addition to various project management programs and certifications. He has extensive experience in the design, execution and management of many high-profile and signature projects in Egypt and the Middle East, including Abraj al Beit in Mecca, Conrad and St. Regis hotels in Cairo and master planning of the iconic North Coast destination and resort, Marassi.
Heba Hanafy

With over 20 years of experience in professional executive assistant positions in both academic and higher administration departments at the AUC and a track record of strong performance in high-volume and high-pressure environments, Heba Hanafy skillfully manages administrative duties and staff relations for her colleagues in different places she joined throughout her career.
As an executive assistant at the CPO, she ensures the smooth operation of the office with her robust knowledge of AUC policies and efficient handling of user inquiries; she also provides administrative support to the architects in the office and is eager to assist and help everyone in the community. Hanafy is also a graduate diploma holder in educational leadership and is on her way to pursuing her Master of Arts in educational leadership shortly.
Salwa Kotb

Salwa Kotb is a former architecture consultant with more than 20 years of experience in local and international project design and planning and issuing a full construction document set coordinated between all disciplines. She provides design oversight of major building and campus improvement projects, verifies the client needs, project scope and alternative design concepts, feasibility and site analysis studies, reviews code and safety issues to coordinate obtaining the permits required, provides input into the landscape and public art projects; interpretation of university design guidelines, develop a project program, preparation and management of institutional space and facilities need assessments; find the complete, up-to-date space assignment inventory of university facilities, manage space issues and priorities between academic and administrative areas, confirm the space standards and furniture guidelines for offices, classrooms, and support spaces, assist with the development of future projections for departmental and divisional space requirements.
In 2000, Kotb served as an architect with the prime architect at the Office of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Abdel Halim Ibrahim Abdel Halim, in the AUC New Cairo campus project in its following different phases: competition, master design plan, design principles, and guidelines for the new campus.
Mariam Iskander

Mariam Iskander joined AUC in 2016 as a design architect in the CPO; she is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®) with more than eight years of experience in design and construction, extensive knowledge in the design of healthcare and educational buildings, and background in management of architectural projects. Iskander holds an MSc degree in the impact of culture and psychology on the design of healthcare facilities from Ain Shams University. She has an optimistic work attitude, is well-organized, and is highly motivated.
Rasha Abdel Kader

Rasha Abdel Kader is a senior architect in the CPO with more than 19 years of experience in design, construction, and project management. She joined AUC in 2008 as a project coordinator in the new campus office as part of the team opening the New Cairo campus. Abdel Kader holds a Bachelor of Science degree in architectural engineering from Ain Shams University and a master’s degree in construction management from AUC. She has a teamwork spirit and an enthusiastic attitude.
