Appointment of Mohamed Hamza as University Counselor
January 4, 2022
Dear AUC Community,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mohamed Hamza as the University Counselor.
A member of the University’s senior leadership group, Hamza serves a critical role in maintaining AUC’s collaborative relationships with Egyptian universities, the Supreme Council of Universities and the Government of Egypt.
Hamza has extensive management and leadership experience in government and academia, in addition to his primary field of expertise as a chemistry professor at Ain Shams University. Most recently, he served as the cultural counselor and director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Washington, D.C. He also served as the acting director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Canada. Hamza was the deputy to the secretary-general of the Supreme Council of the Egyptian Universities and Egypt’s cultural attaché in the United States. Prior to that, he was the chairman of the Missions Administration, first undersecretary of state and the chairman of the Sector of Cultural Affairs and Missions at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Hamza succeeds Ashraf Hatem who served as AUC’s counselor since 2017. Hatem is a highly respected and beloved member of the AUC community, who has served the institution with dedication and distinction. I thank Hatem for his commitment to the University and numerous invaluable contributions, and in particular for his leadership role in managing the University’s response to the pandemic.
Please join me in welcoming Hamza to AUC and wishing Hatem every success in his future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Ahmad Dallal
President
