Dear AUC Community,

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the recent passing of Dr. Doris Enright-Clark Shoukri, a beloved member of the AUC community for many years. 

Dr. Shoukri joined the AUC faculty in 1955, and continued to be an active part of the community for over 60 years. In addition to being a professor of English, she held various administrative duties including Chair of Humanities, Chair of English and Comparative Literature, and Chair of the Freshman Program, and founder of the English Language Institute. 

Dr. Shoukri founded AUC’s Distinguished Visiting Professor program, and brought international creative writers to AUC. A poet and writer of short stories, Dr. Shoukri was named Professor Emeritus upon her retirement from AUC, and continued to teach and supervise these until 2018.
