Dear AUC Community,

It is with profound sorrow that I share the news of the passing of Professor Emerita Dr. Pakinam Askalani.

Askalani was an esteemed and cherished member of the AUC community. Her journey with us began in 1968 when she joined as an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Sciences, which later became the Department of Chemistry. Over the course of 57 years, Askalani occupied diverse academic positions and made valuable contributions to esteemed institutions including the University of South Carolina and Florida State University.

In 2021, Askalani retired from AUC, and in the same year, she was bestowed with the title of professor emerita, a testament to her remarkable contributions to academia and unwavering dedication to the field of chemistry.

We extend our deepest condolences to Askalani's family and loved ones. The Azaa (عزاء) to honor her memory will be held today, Monday, April 1, 2024, from 8 - 10 pm at Hassan Al Sharbatly Mosque in New Cairo.
