Condolences - Dr. Yehia El Azabi
April 27, 2024
Dear AUC Community,
It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Dr. Yehia El Ezabi, professor emeritus at the Department of Applied Linguistics.
El Ezabi was a valued member of the AUC community since he first joined the University in 1968 as an assistant professor at the (then) English Language Institute. He next served as ELI director, a position which he returned to again later in his career, up until his retirement in 2006.
El Ezabi was appointed as the first AUC vice provost in 1983. Throughout his career, his expertise in the fields of linguistics, lexicography and education was sought out nationwide and throughout the region. He was known for his academic distinction, his administrative prowess and personal integrity. He was beloved by his colleagues and his students.
The current faculty of the Academy of Liberal Arts includes a number of El Ezabi's former students. Through their ongoing contributions to our students, his legacy at AUC endures.
Condolences may be extended in person to his family on Sunday, April 28, after Maghreb prayers at Omar Makram Mosque, and via email to his daughter, Shereen El Ezabi, senior instructor at the Department of Arabic Language Instruction at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Ehab Abdel Rahman
Provost
