Condolences - Former AUC Board of Trustees Chairman and Advisory Trustee Paul B. Hannon
September 12, 2022
Dear AUC Community,
I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to you all on the passing of an esteemed member of our community, former Chairman of AUC’s Board of Trustees and Advisory Trustee Paul B. Hannon.
He was a cherished friend, valued advisor, and a long-standing supporter of AUC and its mission. His belief in the importance of a liberal arts education in Egypt and the Middle East was evident in his leadership and dedicated service on the board.
A staunch advocate of AUC since he joined the board in 1976, he worked diligently and passionately to ensure the University’s success by serving on every committee and through his generous contributions. These are all testaments to the values Mr. Hannon upheld in serving humanity through the advancement of education.
During an oral history interview conducted in 2015 for the University Archives, he said: “I think the most important thing that I have ever done in my life is be associated with AUC. I have said often that AUC is the most important American University in the world… because of the crucial role that it plays in the most important Arab nation, Egypt.”
The American University in Cairo is grateful for Mr. Hannon’s generosity of spirit and vision that has inspired us. His legacy at AUC has been profound through his trustee service, philanthropy, and impact on those who had the privilege of serving with him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Ahmad Dallal
