Message from Board of Trustees Chair
Dear AUC Community,
With the summer season officially here and many transitions afoot at AUC, it is a time of change and renewal.
Last week, you received the exciting announcement of the selection of President-elect Ahmad Dallal as AUC’s 13th president. By the time he and his family arrive on campus in the fall, the University will have accomplished another major milestone in returning back to fully face-to-face instruction after more than a year of disruptions caused by the pandemic. I, along with many of my colleagues on the Board of Trustees, look forward to attending the president’s inauguration and connecting once again in person with the campus community this fall.
These significant milestones would not have been possible without the care and diligence of many members of the AUC community. The successful completion of the presidential search is thanks in no small part to the commitment and thoughtfulness of the Presidential Search Committee, composed of 14 faculty and trustees and led by the chair of the search committee Trustee Tarek Masoud who brought boundless energy, enthusiasm and an emphasis on wide consultation throughout the process.
I am also deeply appreciative of the faculty, staff and administrators working tirelessly throughout the summer on the herculean task of bringing the University safely back together for face-to-face instruction. Through vaccinations, we can all do our part in taking care of the health and well-being of our community.
As we look ahead with pride and optimism on the next chapter in AUC’s history, I want to once again express our appreciation to our outgoing President Francis Ricciardone for his leadership and contributions in the last five years. AUC is a stronger institution today and well-positioned for an even greater leap ahead.
Finally, I’m pleased to announce the reappointment of Professor Ehab Abdel-Rahman as provost for another term, effective July 1, 2021. President Ricciardone appointed Provost Abdel-Rahman with the concurrence of the Board of Trustees and in consultation with President-elect Dallal. We are pleased Provost Abdel-Rahman will continue in his leadership role at AUC. Please join me in congratulating Ehab on his reappointment.
I would like to thank Ehab for agreeing to continue to serve as acting president until President-elect arrives this fall.
I wish you all a restful and rejuvenating summer, and look forward to seeing you again very soon as AUC embarks on a bold new chapter in its history.
Mark Turnage
Chair, Board of Trustees
