Return to Partial Face-to-Face Classes
February 15, 2021
Dear AUC Community,
I hope you are all doing well, and that your Spring 2021 is off to a great start. In my email of January 17, I notified you that all classes would be online from the beginning of Spring semester through the month of February. We have been monitoring the situation carefully, and I am pleased to announce that as of March 1, 2021 we will resume our previously-planned hybrid model of partially face-to-face classes.
This means that all courses which were originally planned to be partially face-to-face will be able to hold sessions on campus. Likewise, for courses which were scheduled with face-to-face exams, mid-term exams will now be held on campus. Students who have registered in such courses should consult directly with their professors regarding the precise dates of campus-based class meetings and/or exams. Spring courses that were originally planned to be fully online will continue to be offered in this modality until further notice.
In order to better ensure the safety of those who are present on campus, only those students who are registered in partial face-to-face classes or who reside in campus residences will have access to campus.
Tomorrow the Vice President of Management and Operations will be sending an email that includes the campus guidelines and the details of all safety protocols. We must all continue to do our part to protect our own safety and that of our families and the entire community. Everyone who comes to campus must first complete the self-check, must wear a mask inside all AUC buildings at all times, and must follow safe distancing guidelines.
It is our hope that this step represents a gradual return to full campus life. However, we know that the pandemic is unfortunately not over, and must recognize that the situation remains somewhat uncertain. We are prepared for either eventuality – with a resumption of fully online learning should the situation deteriorate, or a fuller return to campus should there be continued improvements.
I look forward to seeing more of you on campus in a few weeks.
Sincerely,
Ehab Abdel-Rahman, Provost
