Welcome to Fall 2024
September 1, 2024
Dear AUC Community,
Welcome to the new academic year. For those of you who are returning, please join me in welcoming to campus all of the newcomers from among our students, faculty and staff. Our diverse community is at the core of AUC’s strength, and we are pleased to see so many new faces on campus. I look forward to meeting everyone in the weeks ahead and invite you to make full use of the opportunities to engage in our vibrant campus life.
This year, we are joined by new faculty members from six countries and international students from 18 countries, representing a 34% increase in international students over last year. Among our incoming undergraduate class are top-performing students in each of the international secondary certificates and the thanawyia amma. We welcomed the largest cohort of Excellence Scholarship recipients demonstrating academic achievement, community service and a range of talents in art, music and sports, including an Olympian who represented Egypt at the Paris games.
We are especially proud of the Palestinian faculty and students joining AUC this year. Their resilience and perseverance are a source of inspiration for all of us, as the war in Gaza continues to cast a large shadow over our region. Many members of our community — students, faculty, staff and alumni — are personally impacted by the war and many more are working on multiple fronts to support humanitarian efforts. We are focused on expanding the Palestinian Endowed Scholarship Fund and will continue to provide as much support as we can.
Last June, we commemorated the groundbreaking for Campus 2026, the University’s campus expansion project. This semester, we will start construction and will continue to keep the community updated on our progress with the buildings and the programming plans for the Extended Education Hub, Technology, Research and Innovation Lab, and the NextGen Student Living and Learning Spaces. We hope to minimize disruption to our operation from the construction and will be sharing any expected changes.
In addition, we have made advances in each of the areas in the University’s Strategic Priorities Roadmap. I invite everyone on campus to share your ideas on the many initiatives underway. Please bring your insights and questions to our first Campus Conversation of the academic year on Monday, September 30 at 1 pm.
I wish you an enriching and engaging semester and hope to see you on campus soon.
Sincerely,
Ahmad Dallal
