Welcoming our New Dean of Students
December 13, 2022
Dear AUC Community,
Following an extensive international search, I am pleased to announce that Yorgun Marcel has accepted the position of AUC’s Dean of Students, beginning January 2023.
Mr. Marcel will be coming to AUC from George Mason University, where he has been for the past 5 years. He currently serves as the Associate Dean for University Life for their Korea campus. In this role, he has been overseeing key areas of student life, including student wellness/counseling and psychological services, disability services, student conduct, student government and student organizations, international student services, residential life, campus recreation, academic integrity, and career development services. Prior to that, Mr. Marcel spent 5 years at the College of Wooster (in Ohio) where he served as the Associate Dean of Students and Director of International Student Affairs. He began his Student Life career in 2005, as the Associate Director of Student Activities at College of Santa Fe in New Mexico, and also served as Director of Intercultural Programs with Buena Vista University in Iowa prior to moving to Ohio. Mr. Marcel earned his Bachelor’s Degree from California State University at Dominguez Hills, and his Master’s from Saint Cloud State University in Minnesota.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Michelle Henry for her dedication to this role over the past seven months. Ms. Henry chaired the search for the new Dean of Students, and she and the whole committee worked diligently to help us with this selection. Michelle Henry has also been serving as Interim Dean of Students since last Spring, where she has provided leadership to the offices of Athletics, Student Conduct, Student Life, Residence Life, Career Center and the Center for Student Wellbeing. She has worked closely and tirelessly with students, student organizations, Deans, faculty and staff across the university to ensure that students are fully supported in their academic and co-curricular experiences.
Please join me in thanking Michelle Henry for the great job she has done, and in congratulating Yorgun Marcel on his appointment to AUC. I look forward to welcoming him in person next month.
Sincerely,
Ehab Abdel-Rahman, Provost
