AUC Road to College: Open English Access FAQs

Applying and Registering

The courses are mainly directed to students aged 13-18 who would like to improve their language skills before joining University.

The course is free of charge. You are not required to pay anything at any point.

Please email us at [email protected], and we should be able to remind you of your username as registered on the system.

Click on the Forgot Password? button from the Open Learn AUC homepage. You should be able to choose a new password in a matter of seconds. Choose one that you can easily remember.

If you have different email accounts, try logging in with each email. If the problem still exists, you might create a new email account.

Level Guide

The Level Guide is a short and quick multiple-choice test that we offer to give you an indication of what level you are at. The idea is to help you start at a convenient level.

Check your email on a regular basis. Your score and the link to the recommended course for you will be directly sent to your email (the email address you used when registering).

Also, check your spam folder as the email might reach there by mistake.

You can always change the level if you feel you need a more challenging one, or a less challenging one. In this case, you do not need to retake the guide.

There must be a valid reason for repeating the Level Guide. You are allowed to retake it one time only if your reason is accepted by [email protected].

Duration

Each course should take an average of 4-6 weeks to complete. Each module should take one week to complete. This is a rough estimate, so just work at your pace even if this means that you take a shorter or longer time to complete the level.

If you remain inactive for one year (12 months), you will be removed from the database, and you will need to reapply.

Starting and Passing Courses

Please watch this video carefully to know how to navigate the course.

No, module quizzes are to be taken only once, so take them when you are ready.

To pass from one course to another, you need to pass all module quizzes with a total average of at least 70%.

Once you successfully finish a course, you can automatically start the following one, if available, by clicking on Next Course from the course homepage. No new registration is required.

Text Box

We would advise you to complete all the course activities and to positively engage in all discussion forums. This will help you practice more, and the key to improving your language is to practice.

We would highly encourage you to complete it since it gives us some insight into the course content to be able to better serve your needs and improve our services.

Certificates and Badges

No, certificates are not offered at this point. What we offer is a course badge that you request upon the successful completion of the course.

A badge is an online form of recognition. It is digital proof of general performance in the courses. It is also a motivational form of acknowledging your achievement in a specific subject or course.

IELTS and TOEFL

No, the courses we offer are meant to improve your general language skills to help you become better at using the language. However, they are not equivalent to IELTS or TOEFL, and they do not replace any admissions requirements related to language proficiency.

SCE and Free Open Courses

The Free Open English courses target high school students aged 13-18 to help them become better prepared for university life.

The School of Continuing Education offers a variety of both online and face-to-face paid courses that target different age groups to help get prepared for different life and work settings.

Visiting the Campus

Boot Camps: Once students have completed four ARC Open English courses during a 12-month period, they may be eligible to attend the Summer@AUC Boot Camps on AUC's New Cairo campus if they meet program requirements through a rigorous selection process. More information can be found here.

Joining AUC

Our courses do not replace the admission requirements of any proficiency language test required as proof of language abilities, such as that of IELTS or TOEFL. You may apply to AUC if you wish to join it as an undergraduate. However, you have to check with the admissions office to see if you meet the admission requirements or not. If you meet the admission requirements, you may apply and wait for the acceptance letter.

Grading

This is an online course, so a facilitator will be present to address any course-related problems. However, a facilitator is not required to explain lessons or grade your work. As an Open learner, we expect you to be an independent and inquisitive learner.
