This bootcamp offers you a three-week, intensive, non-credit course to develop your Arabic language proficiency. Embark in a hands-on experience where you will learn Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic through engaging in meaningful educational and cultural experiences. This bootcamp will not only upscale your Arabic but also help you become a global citizen able to connect with millions of speakers worldwide and better understand different cultures.

The bootcamp includes:

  • Weekly Arabic calligraphy sessions, where you will learn and enjoy practicing Arabic handwriting
  • Field trips in the streets of Cairo to practice the language outside the classroom
  • A two-night trip to Alexandria, where you will be exploring the beauty of the city and going on historical and cultural excursions

Learning Outcomes

  • Comprehend the purpose, main idea and some details in some authentic texts
  • Communicate confidently in social conversations. Talk about your needs and familiar topics of personal relevance
  • Write short texts and notes on a familiar topic
  • Employ a variety of simple structures and some complex ones when speaking
  • Effectively communicate basic needs in a culturally appropriate manner

Duration and Location

  • Three weeks: July 28 - August 15, 2024
  • Sessions will run daily from 9 am - 3 pm
  • AUC New Cairo campus
  • Fridays and Saturdays off
  • AUC holidays will be compensated for with extra hours

Fees

$2,000 including:

  • AUC accommodation
  • Field trips and transportation 
  • Two nights in Alexandria
  • Weekly calligraphy sessions

  • 10% discount offered for siblings  
  • 10% discount for AUC faculty and staff
  • 15% discount for AUC alumni

Who Can Apply?

Students who have completed two years of studying Arabic.

Certification

All the bootcamp participants will receive a certificate of participation from AUC.

Transportation 

The AUC bus service is available for extra fees. Details on the schedule will be shared before the program's start date. 

Accommodation 

Accommodation is offered at the University Residences in case needed. 

About the Instructor

Ghada Ramadan

Ghada Ramadan has been an Arabic teacher for non-native speakers since 2013. She worked in different institutes with students from different countries, teaching them the basic skills of the Arabic language: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. In addition, Ramadan taught them the life skills of the language, representing culture, history, media, and other skills. She taught several students from various countries and cultures, and through that, she learned many things and gained extensive experience. Ramadan graduated from the Arabic Language and Literature department, Faculty of Arts at Cairo University. After graduation, she established an MA program at the same department, obtaining an MA degree in linguistic studies. Now, she is enrolled in a PhD program at the same university as she has established a TAFL program at The American University in Cairo (AUC), seeking another MA degree.

AUC Refund Policy

The following cases will offer a 100% refund of the program fees. If reported at least three weeks before the program's start date.

  • Medical withdrawal
  • Visa denial
