5000 Years of Egyptian Heritage: A Hands-On Exploration

Engage in a variety of stimulating activities that will leave an imprint on you!

This bootcamp introduces students to the treasures of the Egyptian heritage, from architecture and physical structure to cultural crafts, cuisine, folklore, literature and recreation. Through brainstorming, mind mapping, presentations, role-playing, games and teamwork, students will be able to draw on the values of history to enrich their everyday life practices. Students will work on projects to design and implement unique products, including interactive maps, activity booklets, customized itineraries, treasure hunts, and board games. These creations integrate tangible and intangible aspects of Egyptian heritage in specific locations on the map. Join us this summer in a stimulating heritage learning journey, where you will appreciate your Egyptian identity, and develop skills that will live with you.

Duration and Location

  • One Week: August 11 – August 15 , 2024
  • Sessions will run daily from 9 am to 3 pm
  • AUC New Cairo campus
  • Fridays and Saturdays off
  • AUC holidays will be compensated for with extra hours

Fees

  • EGP 3,700 (price includes materials needed)
  • The following discounts are offered:
    • 10% discount for siblings
    • 10% discount for AUC faculty and staff
    • 15% discount for AUC Alumni

Students aged 12 to 16 years.

Certification

All the bootcamp participants will receive a certificate of participation from AUC.

Transportation 

The AUC bus service is available for extra fees. Details on the schedule will be shared before the program's start date.

Note that only vaccinated students are allowed to use the bus service.

Accommodation 

Accommodation is offered at the University residences.

About the Instructor

Heba Safey Eldeen

Heba Safey Eldeen is a professor of architecture and design at The American University in Cairo (AUC) and Misr International University (MIU). She is the director of the Architecture and Children Work program at the International Union of Architects and director of the House of Egyptian Architecture of the Ministry of Culture’s Cultural Development Fund. Among other activities, she organizes workshops, campaigns, training courses, and awards for schools, institutions, and individuals who help children and youth learn about the built environment, architecture, design, history, heritage and sustainability. Eldeen is passionate about developing young architects to-be.

AUC Refund Policy

A 100% refund of the program fees will be offered in the following cases. Cases should be reported at least three weeks before the program's start date.
