Amani Elshimi is senior instructor II of rhetoric and composition at The American University in Cairo (AUC). She is a devoted supporter of undergraduate student scholarship, and an active practitioner of engaging pedagogies, including community-based learning, senior capstone experiences, and course-based internships. She has over 20 years of experience in higher education teaching, faculty development, curriculum design, assessment, and program administration. Between 2008-2011, she served as founding director of community-based learning, and she continues to serve as consultant to education focused civil society organizations. She received the AUC’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009, the Excellence in Community-Based Learning Award in 2013, and is recognized on the Talloires Civic Engagement Expert’s List.
