Brief Biography

Senior instructor II of Arabic Language  (2004) 
BA 1977, Mansoura University; MA 1998, American University in Cairo. 

Azza Hassanein is the Executive Director of Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA@AUC) and a senior Arabic language instructor in the Department of Arabic Language Instruction at the American University in Cairo (AUC). 

Azza holds a Master's degree in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language TAFL (1995). She has worked as an instructor of Modern Standard and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic at AUC since 1992. Hassanein received the “CASA Excellence in Teaching” Award, on 16 May, 2013. She developed and piloted the Department of Arabic Language Instruction’s blended-learning initiative, for Arabic requirement, in collaboration with the Center of learning and teaching in 2019.

Her research interests focus on writing, grammar and assessment. She authored a reference book for Arabic grammar and co-authored a series of Arabic as a foreign language (AFL) books on Arabic writing at different levels as follows: 

Modern Standard Arabic Grammar, A Concise Guide - The American University Press, 2006.

“Uktub Alarabia” - a three books series for teaching writing to elementary, intermediate and advanced levels – The American University Press, 2014.
