Brief Biography

Azza Hassanein is the executive director of Center for Advanced Arabic Study in Cairo (CAASIC) and Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA) at The American University in Cairo (AUC), where she has been teaching Arabic since 1995. She holds a Master’s degree in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL), earned in 1997, and has dedicated her career to improving Arabic language education at the American University in Cairo (AUC).

Hassanein has always aimed to make learning Arabic accessible and engaging for students, introducing methods like blended learning to enhance their experience. In 2019, she developed and piloted the Department of Arabic Language Instruction’s blended-learning initiative for the Arabic requirement in collaboration with the Center for Learning and Teaching. Azza was also honored with the "CASA Excellence in Teaching" Award in 2013, which reflects her commitment to teaching and her students.

With a deep passion for Arabic grammar, Azza enjoys helping students understand the intricacies of the language. Her love for Arabic grammar led her to author Modern Standard Arabic Grammar – A Concise Guide and co-author the Uktub al-‘arabiya series, both designed to help students develop not only their Arabic writing skills but also their proficiency and accuracy in the language.
