Nabil Ibrahim Mohareb

Nabil Mohareb is an associate professor at The American University in Cairo's (AUC), Department of Architecture at the School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE). He previously served as the chair director of the Faculty of Architecture—Design and Built Environment at Beirut Arab University's Tripoli Campus in Lebanon, where he implemented innovative educational strategies that enhanced the faculty's research output and global engagement.
His academic career spans roles at leading universities across Egypt, the UAE, and Lebanon. His research focuses on the intersection of architecture, urbanization and social dynamics. His studies particularly examine the implications of architectural and urban planning on social behavior and spatial-economic structures in urban settings.
Mohareb has authored over 58 refereed journal articles and conference papers internationally, emphasizing transformative urban studies and architectural innovation. He has participated as principal investigator (PI), Co-PI and team member in several funded research projects, amounting to over $190,000. He has led more than 15 experimental workshops in Egypt, Italy and Lebanon, aiming to integrate theoretical research with practical architectural applications. He has shared his insights on urban regeneration at a TEDx talk in Lebanon. He acts as the regional editor for the Middle East and Africa for the International Journal of Architectural Research, Archnet-IJAR, and as a member of the editorial review board for the Open House International Journal, published by Emerald Group Publishing and other journals. He was invited as a guest or main speaker to over 30 events, including conferences, roundtables, webinars and other related activities, reflecting his interest in architecture and urban planning.
Recently, he joined the International Union of Architects’ Commission on Sustainable Development Goals, where he now coordinates the Innovation in SDGs’ workgroup, fostering global architectural practices that support sustainable development.
