Brief Biography

Nermine Said is an Egyptian costume designer with a master's in folk-theatre from the Academy of Arts in Cairo and a BA in theatre from The American University in Cairo (AUC). She also holds a diploma in fashion design and dressmaking from Thomson Education-Direct.

Said’s expertise spans both theater and cinema, with her work reaching international stages in Bucharest, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Cyprus. She is particularly interested in character analysis, the symbolic power of accessories, and the psychological effects of colors. Driven by her passion for drama and scenography, Said has expanded her interests to include visual arts and installations.

She is an active member of OISTAT (Egypt) and its international sub-committee of costume designers. Her credit in the field of visual arts and installations as artistic director, producer, and designer, was her Costume installation exhibition KHOTOUM: The 7 seals of Nermine Said (2022) Khotoum (2014) which was shown in Cairo, Helsinki and London. In 2020, she presented The Black Fool installation from Khotoum: The 7 Seals Had its world premiere at the Costume Agency online exhibition during the Critical Costume Conference. Her latest project, Shield by Nature, is a series of self-portraits created during the lockdown in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, featuring 30 images over 30 days.

Currently, Said is working on searching the history of costume design in Egyptian cinema.
