Brief Biography

Tarek Hatem is a professor of entrepreneurship and strategy at the Onsi Sawiris School of Business, The American University in Cairo (AUC). He previously served as associate dean for executive education, a senior research fellow at the Dubai School of Government. He was a visiting professor at the University of Colorado, a visiting scholar at the University of Maryland and attended executive training in Harvard Business School and London Business School. He is also a certified management consultant from the Institute of Management Consultancy in the United Kingdom.

Hatem is actively engaged in academia, contributing through journal publications, conference presentations and membership on several editorial boards. He combines academic expertise with practical experience, having served on the boards of several companies in different industries, including Orascom Construction Industry, Bank Misr, IQ Management Consultancy Group, Egyptian Sun for Agricultural Development and El Rashad Asset Management Holding Company. He was also the founding chair of the Management Consultants Association in Egypt.

Beyond academia and business, Hatem is deeply involved in nonprofit initiatives. He currently serves as chairman of Hatem’s Foundation for Development and the Egyptian-Japanese Friendship Association. Additionally, he is a founding board member of the Egyptian Network for Integrated Development.

Hatem has also contributed to public policy, serving as an advisor to the prime minister of Egypt, the Ministry of Industry and the Central Bank of Egypt.

He holds a PhD in Strategic Management (1986) and an MA in Public Administration (1981) from the University of Colorado, USA. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt in 1979.
