AUC Collaborates with the Grand Egyptian Museum to Train Tour Guides and Photographers
The American University in Cairo’s (AUC) School of Continuing Education (SCE) has partnered with the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) to provide specialized training opportunities for aspiring tour guides and photographers. Through this collaboration, SCE and GEM will jointly offer a Professional Certificate for Tour Guides, equipping participants with in-depth knowledge of Egypt’s cultural and historical heritage, on-site training, and practical sessions conducted within GEM.
“Developing the Professional Certificate for Tour Guides has been an enriching experience that involved months of collaboration with subject matter experts from the GEM,” said Amira El-Deeb, career development department director. “Throughout this process, we conducted an in-depth study of the landscape of professional tour guiding and identified key gaps in performance and market demands. By analyzing these needs, we were able to design a comprehensive program that goes beyond traditional classroom instruction.”
In addition to tour guide training, SCE’s Mobile Photography Workshop is incorporated into the program, providing participants with photography techniques to document history through their lenses. This workshop enhances their ability to capture and share Egypt’s historical and modern marvels through compelling visual storytelling while also highlighting the breathtaking architecture and design of the museum.
The certificate program also includes exclusive access to internships with prominent travel companies in Egypt, allowing students to apply their tour guiding skills in real-world settings.
“We designed a curriculum that not only covers essential guiding skills but also immerses participants in Egypt’s rich cultural and historical heritage, ensuring they gain firsthand experience in a world-class environment,” said El-Deeb.
