AUC Joins 11 Egyptian Universities in Launching the Third UCCD 2022 Virtual Career Expo in Cooperation with USAID
The American University in Cairo (AUC) joined 11 Egyptian universities and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) yesterday in launching the University Centers for Career Development (UCCD) Third Virtual Career Expo 2022. The Expo, organized by the University Centers for Career Development (UCCD), is a USAID-funded project implemented by AUC and eleven Egyptian Public Universities: Alexandria, Ain Shams, Aswan, Beni-Suef, Mansoura, Menoufia, Minia, Sadat City, Sohag, Tanta and Zagazig. The opening ceremony was attended by AUC President Ahmad Dallal and the presidents of the partner universities, USAID/Egypt’s Director of Education and Health Office Wick Powers and AUC Counselor Mohamed Hamza, together with the Expo official partners, the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) and Etisalat Misr and 60 other corporate participants.
At the opening ceremony, AUC President Ahmad Dallal said: “The collaboration between Egyptian universities, USAID, and AUC brings an inspiring model. AUC shares its 30-year experience of successful career education with the UCCDs at partner universities. The Expo, which uses the latest communication technology, is an integral part of universities’ role in serving their students and graduates. The Expo is an opportunity to communicate with employers, not only to provide opportunities for employment and training but to expand their awareness of reality and the needed job market requirements as well.”
AUC Counselor Mohamed Hamza said: “This virtual expo represents a wonderful example of the fruitful cooperation between eleven Egyptian universities from Alexandria to Aswan to provide various job and training opportunities for students and graduates.” Hamza added that this project also links the universities with the labor market and its various sectors and provides solutions to unprecedented challenges using innovation and technology.
National Bank of Egypt (NBE) Chairman Hisham Okasha said: “NBE’s participation as the official partner in the third UCCD Virtual Career Expo 2022 comes as an extension of its successful strategy to support graduates and university students in finding job opportunities suitable for their qualifications and abilities, as well as providing appropriate training that enables them to get employed and help build their communities.” Okasha added that this aligns with NBE’s role in supporting many initiatives that encourage sustainable development and social responsibility in Egypt. “Such initiatives raise the human capabilities of young people in a way that supports their skills and qualifies them to enter the labor market efficiently, especially since investing in people is one of the most important approaches of development, which is what the National Bank of Egypt believes in, as expressed in its recently announced strategy.”
More than 6000 students and graduates from Egyptian universities registered on the UCCD Virtual Platform, uploaded their resumes and communicated with about 60 local and international companies to learn about the available jobs and internships within the virtual booths while connecting with different companies and banks in chat-rooms. They also attended webinars presented by the National Bank of Egypt, Etisalat Misr, Google, Alpha Medical Group, Vodafone and Edita on the most critical developments in the labor market.
