AUC Releases Third Sustainability Report Highlighting Its Green Efforts And Achievements
July 31, 2024, Cairo, Egypt – The American University in Cairo (AUC) has published its biennial sustainability report and brochure. Compiled by the Office of Sustainability, this report provides an in-depth look at the University's sustainability initiatives, progress and impact. Released every two years, this report showcases AUC's commitment to environmental, social, and economic sustainability. "This report positions AUC as a role model for similar institutions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and beyond," said Yasmine Mansour, AUC's sustainability director. Mansour added that the report highlights AUC's engagement with the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). "Each chapter of the report is aligned with at least one of the SDGs to showcase AUC's global sustainability efforts and the critical role of higher education in achieving and implementing the SDGs. Additionally, the report highlights the University's significant progress in embracing global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles."
Following AUC's inaugural report in 2020 and the second report in 2022, the third edition is organized around the University's different forms of engagement with sustainability, including education, research, campus operations, campus engagement, global focus and governance. "This is one of the first comprehensive studies of its kind in the region, providing valuable insights and setting a model for future research and development efforts," Mansour noted.
The report acknowledges AUC's commitment to sustainable practices and identifies areas in which the University can improve to become an international leader in sustainability and continue to guide other higher education institutions within the region.
