AUC Signs Partnership Agreement with Arab League's Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization
The Middle East Institute for Higher Education (MEIHE) at the American University in Cairo (AUC) has signed a partnership agreement with the Arab League’s Education, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). The agreement was signed at the closing ceremony of the “The First Annual Teachers Conference for the Development of Education in the Arab World,” organized by the School of Graduate Education’s MEIHE last week. The three day conference focused on the enhancement of teachers and empowering them with new approaches for their professional development with a focus on teachers as reflective thinkers and researchers. The agreement aims at advancing higher education and scientific research in the Arab world, through a number of programs between AUC and ALECSO. Areas of cooperation include exchanging work experiences concerning teachers’ training and development; improving educational curricula; developing the best educational practices in the Arab universities and spreading open and electronic education. Future cooperation also includes academic and educational consultations and restructuring of the educational institutions and providing support upon request, through conducting educational research and field studies with the aim of improving the quality of higher education and tying it to the market.
These areas of cooperation will be executed through workshops, lectures and educational courses and committees will be formed to assess the execution and the follow-up of any areas of cooperation between AUC and ALECSO.
Malak Zaalouk, founding director of the Middle East Institute for Higher Education (MEIHE) in GSE said, “it is gratifying that the first conference for teachers ends with the development of education in the Arab world through signing a cooperation agreement between ALECSO and AUC to ensure continuity in the development of education and support professional development of teachers in the Arab countries. It is a great honor that MEIHE has become one of the active partners in the Arab region. Through previous projects MEIHE has become an attractive partner with other regional and international institutions, which will eventually facilitate their work.”
