A New Member Joins AUC’s Board of Trustees
A new member has joined the Board of Trustees of The American University in Cairo (AUC), Bishoy Azmy '02, CEO of the Dubai-based ASGC construction group. Azmy, the newest and youngest member to join AUC's Board of Trustees, graduated summa cum laude from AUC with a bachelor's in construction engineering and then received his master's in international construction management from the University of Bath and an EMBA from the London Business School.
Originally from Egypt, Azmy grew up in Dubai, and inspired by the city's transformation, he pursued his higher education in business and construction management and then returned to join the family business. Azmy started off in ASGC as a site engineer, rising steadily to become CEO in 2008.
ASGC employs more than 18,000 people in the Middle East and brings in an excess of $1 billion annually. ASGC's main areas of operation are construction, real estate development, and construction material manufacturing in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Azmy is an active member of numerous organizations in the region and around the world. A board member of the local Emirates Chapter of the Young Presidents Organisation, he is also an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and sits on the board of Costain, one of the United Kingdom's biggest infrastructure contractors.
Richard Bartlett, chair of AUC's Board of Trustees, said: "We are excited to welcome an enthusiastic alum and friend of the University to the Board of Trustees. Bishoy's engineering and business acumen will be a great resource to the University's long-term planning, especially because he values what a liberal arts education has meant for his own work and what it can do for the region."
