AUC to Host Chinese-African Higher Education Forum
On the occasion of the Year of Education initiative in Egypt and the country’s presidency of the African Union, AUC is organizing the Chinese-African Higher Education Forum, which will take place on April 2 and April 3, 2019 at the New Cairo campus, hosting leaders of more than 20 Chinese, African and Egyptian universities. The forum will cover a wide range of topics on higher education, including Chinese-African strategic cooperation based on China's One Belt, One Road Initiative, impact of universities on diplomacy and trade, internationalization of higher education in today's digital world, student mobility and exchange programs, faculty exchange programs and joint research, in addition to technology and knowledge transfer in higher education for Sustainable Development Goals. Reinforcing AUC's ongoing cooperation with international universities, especially in China and Africa, the forum will examine opportunities for joint projects in different sectors, including science and technology, innovation, exchange programs, research mobility, culture and other fields of education.
The forum will also host 200 notable guests from leading Egyptian educational institutions, including Egypt's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, associate minister of foreign affairs for African affairs, and chiefs of mission for the various countries represented in the forum: Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and China.
The Chinese- African theme is inspired by The New Silk Road — or One Belt, One Road — initiative and the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation in Economic and Social Development. The Beijing Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2018 offered strong support to African-Chinese collaboration in the field of higher education.
