The Kamal Adham Center Organizes Science Journalism Pre-Conference
The Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism organized the pre-conference event "Science Journalism: The Professional Approach," initiating a dialogue between science journalists, academics and media professionals on the importance of science journalism in the Arab world.
In the coming months, the Center will release a new publication dedicated to science journalism and prepare for the centennial conference "Science Journalism in the Arab World: Toward Fostering an Environment for Growth," taking place in November 2019 in collaboration and partnership with the Office of the Associate Provost.
This event and the upcoming conference aim to establish AUC as a regional hub for advancing science journalism, creating durable international partnerships and setting the stage for an annual international conference, regional association and a reputable publication for science journalism based in the region. The pre-conference dialogue brought up questions and ideas that will be discussed again during the conference in November 2019, such as mapping the science journalism landscape in the Arab region; connecting journalists with the scientific community regionally and internationally; international best practices; and setting the ground for capacity building for media scholar, media trainers and science journalists in the region.
The panel discussion took place between Alaa Adris, AUC's associate provost; Mahmoud Alam Eldin, professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, and member of the Higher Press Council; Ahmed Youssef, science television and electronic journalism expert and program presenter; and Mohamed Yahia, president of World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ). The panel was moderated by Hussein Amin, director of the Kamal Adham Center.
