A Ceremony to Celebrate AUC’s Outstanding Scholars and Fellows
The ultimate success of AUC is the success of its students. The generosity of individuals and corporations has helped make higher education accessible and affordable for students from all walks of life. During the past year, donors responded to the difficult economic conditions the country is going through and has helped AUC allocate more than $29 million to support financial aid, supporting more than 3,300 students.
In a ceremony to celebrate graduating scholarship and fellowship recipients, donors got the chance to witness the impact their giving has had on the students and to wish them a prosperous future after graduation.
Thirty-four scholarship and fellowship recipients are now ready to move on to a new chapter in their lives. “This scholarship is dear to my heart, because it recognizes my passion for helping others. I’ve always wanted to serve my community by providing advice and assistance to those in need. I have managed to do that through extra-curricular activities on and off campus,” said Kareem Radwan, recipient of the Hisham Ezz Al Arab Endowed Scholarship. “Being an AUC Presidential Ambassador, a peer mentor, an intern at the John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement, specifically in the Lazord Civic Engagement and Leadership Academy, and a teaching assistant … is my way of saying ‘Thank You’ to the donors of AUC who have given me the chance to pursue my dreams,” said Radwan to a crowd full of outstanding scholars, donors, AUC administrators and friends of AUC.
Radwan’s family business is in the tourism sector and since the January 25 Revolution, their financial status has been deeply affected. “The scholarship…that I have received throughout the years has significantly reduced the financial burden on my family,” asserted Radwan. “Therefore, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the donors and Hisham Ezz Al Arab, in particular. Your willingness and sincere devotion to the cause of providing an equal opportunity of education to the underprivileged students who deserve the best quality of education such as the one provided at AUC, resembles hope that Egypt is coming back, better than before.”
AUC offers more than 90 named scholarships and fellowships. These prestigious funds from donors have allowed AUC to recruit and educate outstanding and deserving students who come from different cities, countries, and educational backgrounds.
