Emerson Donates Oil and Gas Reservoir Characterization Software Licenses to The American University in Cairo
Cairo, Egypt [November 9, 2017] –
Emerson has donated licenses for its oil and gas reservoir characterization and engineering software -- Roxar RMS, Roxar Tempest Suite, and Roxar METTE -- to The American University in Cairo (AUC). The University will receive numbers of licenses for each of three Roxar reservoir and production management software programs. Investment will provide long-term support for a new generation of Cairo engineers
The donation is part of Emerson’s initiative to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in industries, academies, and communities around the globe. The industry-leading software is set to aid the skill development of the country’s next generation of engineers in handling reservoir modeling technology.
This software license donation will aid AUC’s engineering students in utilizing the latest software modules focused in interpreting seismic data, well log interpretation and correlation, mapping and geomodelling, and gridding. The software, which will be installed in AUC laboratories and become part of the students’ curriculum, will also provide a full range of reservoir engineering and simulation tools.
“The knowledge that the students will develop through the operation of this industry-standard technology will benefit them in the future, as they enhance their skills in reservoir modeling and engineering,” said Samir Walia, regional manager for Roxar software solution for Emerson Automation Solutions in Africa.
Moreover, Emerson will also assist students in learning the software by providing software introductory training and developing a program where students will have a chance to take an internship with Emerson.
"Providing future generations of engineers the state-of-the-art tools required in understanding the vital disciplines of geology, geophysics is one of the major goals we have for the growing industry," said Mark Dutton, vice president of flow solutions for Emerson Automation Solutions, Middle East and Africa.
The license donation consists of Emerson’s Roxar RMS reservoir characterization and modeling software, Roxar Tempest which complements Roxar RMS with its single, consistent interface utilized in various global installations, and Roxar METTE that provides an integrated flow-assurance and production modeling options. Other modules from Roxar Tempest include MORE, ENABLE, VIEW, PVTx, and VENTURE. RMS, Tempest, and METTE all facilitate the Big Loop™ solution that provides comprehensive uncertainty assessment and best-quantified risk management.
"We are grateful to receive this software, which will be vital for training our students in an industry-standard environment, making their skills relevant when they start operating in the real world," said Ahmed El Banbi, chair of the department of Petroleum and Energy Engineering at The School of Sciences and Engineering at AUC.
As part of its continuing support for universities in the region and across the globe, Emerson previously upgraded the installed reservoir management software for the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi. The same Roxar software was donated earlier this year to two universities in India, Graphic Era University (GEU) in Dehradun and the Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) in Pune.
