Mother's Day Celebration Today, 1 pm, University Garden
For the fourth year, students at AUC are organizing a special Mother’s Day celebration on campus at 1 pm today in the garden behind the library.
“Our Mother's Day celebration began as a way to see the women at AUC as more than their professional roles,” said Mohanad El Sawy, an electronics engineering senior and one of the event organizers. “Ultimately, they are always there to support and guide us, and we feel they deserve a warm sign of gratitude for managing their children both at home and in school.”
The event, which is organized by the AUC fraternity Delta Phi Epsilon and the Office of Student Development, will feature Magda Mostafa, associate professor in the Department of Construction and Architectural Engineering, as the guest speaker this year. Students will read poems dedicated to the mothers, and several students who are members of AUC’s Musicana group will provide musical entertainment. Mothers will also receive unique gift baskets.
El Sawy reflected on the importance of Mother’s Day to ensure mothers feel appreciated. “We value the hard work that our mothers, and mothers at AUC in general, contribute to our lives and want to celebrate them as a way of saying thank you and putting the spotlight on them.”
Student Reflections
Students shared the same sentiment, sharing their thoughts on the occasion and how they see their own mothers.
“My mother is definitely one of the greatest influences in my life,” said Omar Omar, business administration major and member of Delta Phi Epsilon.
“To me, a mother or a woman is a goddess amongst humans,” said Youssef Rammeya, computer science freshman.
“I don’t think we should have only one day to celebrate mothers. We should celebrate every day,” said Noha Nafie, economics major.
