Supporting Teacher Education Reform
With a firm belief that the key to student success in higher education begins with excellent primary and secondary school teachers, ExxonMobil Egypt has partnered with the GSE to support teacher training across Egypt.
GSE was authorized by AUC's Board of Trustees in 2009 to serve as a catalyst for education reform across the region. The school fosters communities of educational reformers and provides professional development for teachers and administrators through various programs and professional educator diplomas.
In support of the school’s mission, ExxonMobil Egypt established the ExxonMobil Egypt Scholarship to support at least 20 teachers and school administrators annually who serve in experimental schools across Egypt. “We are honored to partner with AUC through this valuable program," said Nihad M. Shelbaya, public and government affairs manager at ExxonMobil Egypt and Cyprus. "By enhancing teacher skills, performance and broadening their knowledge, they will be qualified to offer better standards of education, which will certainly impact Egypt’s future generation positively.”
In 2012, ExxonMobil Egypt renewed its commitment to GSE by establishing another cohort of ExxonMobil Postgraduate Professional Educator Diploma fellows, thereby supporting no less than 30 teachers and administrators. “ExxonMobil Egypt’s gift to GSE is especially important since it primarily supports education professionals from the Ministry of Education who are critical players in their schools,” said Samiha Peterson, dean of the GSE.
A longtime member of the extended AUC community, ExxonMobil Egypt has contributed to a wide variety of areas, including scholarships and Annual Fund awards, all of which are instrumental to ensuring AUC’s position at the forefront of excellence in education in the region. As a result of ExxonMobil Egypt’s support, AUCians are making a difference in their communities today.
