The Pathways Beyond Neoliberalism program offers fellowships to support highly qualified students from Egypt and the Arab region who are interested in pursuing full-time graduate studies at AUC in the fields of political science, public policy, global affairs, migration and refugee studies, sociology and anthropology, gender and women studies, economics international development, international human rights law, and journalism and mass communication. 

Applicants should be committed to completing the degree requirements in a maximum period of four semesters. Given the mission of the program, our fellowships emphasize the critical content of master dissertations in the wide array of disciplines signaled above. 

Eligibility

  • Applicants from the following countries: Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen.

  • For new graduate degree-seeking students, they must satisfy the AUC graduate full admissions requirements.

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.

  • For continuing students, to retain the fellowship:

    • The recipient must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2.

    • For the second year, fellows will be required to develop a thesis proposal that critically considers the interaction between the subject of their research and neoliberal thought and practice. The proposed idea should further the conceptual, theoretical, methodological or empirical critique to neoliberal thought as well as their policy, regulatory and institutional implications and applications and contribute to advancing the search for an alternative development model.

Duration

Awarded for a maximum of four semesters, subject to review every semester for academic performance.

Award Coverage

  • Tuition fees for a maximum of nine credits per semester.
  • Stipend.
  • Student services and activities fees.
  • Medical service and health insurance fees.
  • A travel allowance for non-Egypt residents.
  • A housing allowance for non Cairo residents

Responsibilities of Fellows

  • Fellows are assigned 12 hours per week of related academic work through a research assistantship or a teaching assistantship

  • A mandatory training must be completed per university requirements if the fellow is involved in teaching assistantship duties. For details and more information about teaching assistantships, click here).  

  • By accepting this externally funded fellowship, the fellowship recipient agrees to respond to any reporting requests received from AUC by the deadlines communicated to the awarded fellow. This may include a request for photos or academic progress information to be used for reporting purposes or attendance of fellowship events, including any meetings or events with donors as requested by the relevant university entities.
