Editorial Style Guide
The American University in Cairo's Editorial Style Guide serves as a tool to ensure that the University's wide array of publications and web content maintain a consistent editorial image.
AUC's editorial style relies on the usage of American English and is drawn primarily from The Associated Press Stylebook. In some entries where there are differences, AUC's style guide supersedes other sources, which have been adapted for a University setting.
For the spelling of words not listed in the guide, always use the first listed spelling in The American Heritage Dictionary. The guide also includes a listing of campus buildings and addresses; names of academic schools, departments, centers, and offices; University awards; as well as governorates, areas, and streets in Egypt. There is also a punctuation manual, in addition to social media terminologies and guidelines.
AUC's style guide is a living document that will adapt and expand in the future to meet the changing needs of the AUC community and modifications to standard usage. The Office of Marketing Communication and Public Affairs, which produces the guide, welcomes all comments, questions, and suggestions.
