Donor-Funded Scholarships for Prospective Students - Fall 2024
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, The American University in Cairo (AUC) offers scholarship opportunities supported by individuals and corporations. These remarkable awards from donors have allowed AUC to recruit and educate outstanding and eligible students from different cities and educational backgrounds.
Abdallah Abbas Sharbatly Scholarship
This scholarship is intended to fully support a qualified Egyptian Arab female undergraduate student.
Eligibility criteria:
- Female.
- Hold Egyptian or other Arab nationality.
- Demonstrate financial need and academic merit.
- Must pass either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum band score of 6 and a writing score of 6 or 6.5 or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum total score of 76-82 and a writing score of 20-21 or the Duolingo test with a minimum score of 125.
- Tests must be completed no more than two years before the first day of the term for which applicants are applying.

Abdulhadi H. Taher Endowed Scholarships
Established in 2018 to support Egyptian and Saudi Arabian students demonstrating financial need and outstanding academic performance. The fund also provides housing for Saudi Arabian or Egyptian students living outside Cairo or Giza.
Applicants must fulfill the below criteria:
- Egyptian or Saudi Arabian nationality
- High school graduate in the academic year 2023-2024 or a transfer student with no more than one year in their current university
- Demonstrate high academic achievement
- Meet AUC's admission requirements
- Demonstrate financial need
- Must pass either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum band score of 6 and writing score of 6 or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum total score of 76 and writing score of 20 or the Duolingo test with a minimum score of 125.
The scholarship will cover:
- Tuition and fees
- Housing in a double room at the AUC dorms (for eligible students only)

Ahmed and Rania Ismail Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship will support the tuition and fees for one student with a learning disability or any other disability until graduation
Eligibility Criteria:
- Demonstrate financial need, leadership, and academic merit.
- The Fund will support a student declaring any major at AUC, who has demonstrated academic achievement.
- Applicant must pass either the International English Language Testing System (Academic IELTS) with a minimum band score of 5.5 and a writing score of 5.5 or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum total score of 62 and a writing score of 17 or the DUOLINGO test with a minimum score of 115 -120.

Baho Abdullah Bakhsh '00 Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 2024, by Baho Abdulah Bakhsh '00 to support the undergraduate Egyptian students in perpetuity, preferably a male and a female student.
Eligibility criteria:
- Hold Egyptian nationality.
- Demonstrate financial need and academic merit.
- Must pass either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum band score of 6 and a writing score of 6 or 6.5 or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum total score of 76-82 and a writing score of 20-21 or the Duolingo test with a minimum score of 125.
The scholarship will cover:
- Full tuition and other fees.
- Student stipends.
- Housing in the University residences.

Egyptian Refining Company (ERC) Public School Scholarship

Established in 2016 to support tuition for one undergraduate student from a public school in Matareya, Khosos, or Shark Shubra El Kheima (Mostorod).
Eligibility

- Students with thanawiya amma certificates from public schools in Matareya, Khosos, and Shark Shubra El Kheima (Mostorod) for the academic year 2023- 2024
- Egyptian students

Molly Bartlett Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2011 to provide support to one male and one female Egyptian student from Upper Egypt who graduated from an Egyptian public school. Selection is based on an assessment of leadership skills, financial need, academic achievement, and a demonstrated commitment to community service.
One vacant slot for a male student will be available only in the fall of 2024.
Applicants must fulfill the below criteria:
- Nationality: Egyptian.
- High school graduates who attended an Egyptian public school in the academic year 2023-2024 from Upper Egypt governorates
- Have an outstanding secondary school academic record
- Meet AUC admission requirements
- Demonstrated financial need
- Leadership potential and active participation in community service and school activities
- Students must pass recent valid either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum band score of 6 and writing a score of 6 or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum total score of 76 and writing score of 20 or the Duolingo test with a minimum score of 125.
The scholarship will cover:
- Full tuition fees

The Orascom Construction - AUC Scholarship (OC-AUC Scholarship)
The Orascom Construction - AUC Scholarship targets highly ambitious and hardworking Egyptian students from the following eight upper Egypt governorates: Assiut, Bani Suef, Minya, Sohag, Fayyoum, Qena, Luxor, and Aswan. The scholarship is specifically tailored to those interested in pursuing a degree at The American University in Cairo in one of the following majors: economics, architectural engineering, construction engineering, mechanical engineering, petroleum engineering, data science, mathematics, with an option in statistics and data analysis, and actuarial science at AUC.
The OC-AUC scholarship offers a challenging and enriching experience for top-performing students who are active in their local communities and have a vision of bringing about a positive impact on the Egyptian economy.
The scholarship includes:
- Full tuition and other fees.
- Student stipends.
- Books.
- Training and field trips.
- Housing in the University residences.
- Health insurance.
- Transportation.
Eligibility criteria:
- 2023-2024 public or private high school graduates with demonstrated financial need from the following upper Egypt governorates: Assiut, Bani Suef, Minya, Sohag, Fayyoum, Qena, Luxor and Aswan.
- Top percentile scores in public Thanawyia amma, STEM, or experimental schools.
- An interest in majoring in economics, architectural engineering, construction engineering, mechanical engineering, petroleum engineering, data science, mathematics with an option in statistics and data analysis, and actuarial science at AUC.
- Must pass the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum writing score of 6, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum total writing score of 20–21, or the Duolingo test with a minimum score of 125.
- Very good verbal English-language skills as demonstrated by an IELTS or TOEFL iBT exam.
- Excellent communication skills and presentation skills.
- Track record of community engagement.
- Recommendation letters from direct supervisors for community engagement activities are a plus.
- Potential for further leadership development.

A pool of scholarships is available to support deserving and academically outstanding Palestinian students. The available scholarships for fall 2024 are Mohammad Abughazaleh '67 Endowed Palestinian Scholarship, Riad Kamal Palestinian Endowed Scholarship, and Wasef Jabsheh '67 Jordanian-Palestinian Endowed Scholarship.
Eligibility criteria:

Wadi Degla Endowed Scholarship Fund for Student Athletes
To provide partial/full support for qualified and talented students to study at AUC. Students must demonstrate financial need and academic merit.
Eligibility criteria:
- Applicants should be Egyptians with no dual nationalities
- Applicants should be graduates from any private or public school located in Egypt (this includes language and international schools)
- Applicants should have an outstanding secondary school academic record
- Applicants should meet AUC academic admission requirements at the year of application
- Applicants should have an outstanding record, locally or internationally, in one of the following sports: Soccer, Squash, Basketball, Swimming, or Track and Field
- Applicants should commit to playing in the AUC team alongside his / her original sports club in his/her designated sport
- Applicants must maintain a satisfactory academic record and a satisfactory sports record during his/her study at AUC
- Applicants must maintain an academic load of a minimum of 12 credit hours and a maximum of 15 credit hours (18 credit hours in case of engineering major) per fall and spring semesters. Summer academic load is an option of a maximum of 3 credit hours (6 credit hours in case of engineering major).
