Session: Impact Through Storytelling: A Showcase of Student Excellence Television and Digital Journalism Master Students Screen their Award-Winning Capstone Documentaries
A screening of capstone projects produced by graduate students enrolled in the Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism’s MA in television and digital journalism.
The selected films have won awards at the Broadcast Education Association’s (BEA) Festival of Media Arts 2024 and 2025.

Amira Sayed Ahmed, MA ’25 |

Amira Sayed is a Kamal Adham Fellow who graduated in Fall 2024. During her master's program, she won the Professors' Choice Award from the Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism and recently won at the BEA 2025 Festival of Media Arts an "Award of Excellence" in the Graduate Documentary Competition for her micro-documentary, "Ladies of the Nile”.
Sayed's micro-documentary “Ladies of the Nile” is a one-female crew documentary that highlights the incredible journey of Egyptian women who have turned a problem into a blessing. Faced with the environmental issue of water hyacinths in the Nile, these women, supported by a government initiative, have transformed the invasive plants into beautiful handicrafts. This initiative not only addresses the environmental concerns, but also provides these women with a sustainable source of income and empowerment. The film showcases their creativity and resilience, illustrating how they have woven hope and opportunity from the challenges they face.

Sayed currently serves as the head of the Diplomatic Department at the Egyptian Gazette newspaper. She is an African Union Media Fellowship alumna and a certified mobile journalism trainer by Deutsche Welle. She also contributes to the academic community as a teaching assistant at The American University in Cairo (AUC).
Sara Abdellatif Huweedi, MA ’25 |

With over 10 years in the media industry, Sara Abdellatif Huweedi worked as an assistant producer, senior producer, and TV correspondent on shows like ‘Heya w ’Bas’ and ‘Kol Youm’. She also freelanced as a video editor and voice-over artist. She recently completed her master’s degree in television and digital journalism at the Kamal Adham Center at AUC to further hone her skills. She has won second place in the BEA 2025 Festival of Media Arts in the Graduate News Competition for her Television Long Feature, "Descendants of Olive Trees."
The "Descendants of Olive Trees" initiative, founded by Israa Ali, provides displaced Gazan children with education, support, and a safe space to heal. Born from a viral TikTok video, the non-profit helps restore their childhood, offering hope and joy through play and community. It is a beacon of love, rebuilding lives and memories shattered by war.

Haidy Kandil, MA ’24 |

Haidy Kandil is currently a producer at QNews, a sister channel of Al-Qahera News. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and mass communication, majoring in communication and media arts and minoring in psychology from AUC, 2020 with highest honors. She received her masters in television and digital journalism from AUC, 2024 with highest honors and received the Professor’s Choice Award from the Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism.

Kandil won first place in the micro documentary category of the Broadcast Education Association 2024 Festival of Media Arts for her story "People of Al-Kaaby" and second place in the television long feature report category for her story "Tahla's Nets." “People of Al-Kaaby” was also selected in both Vienna and Florence Film Festivals.
Step into the world of Al-Kaaby, a village in El Fayoum, Egypt, where the art of palm fiber crafts is on the verge of fading away. This short documentary, witnesses the inspiring story of the village's last standing house where, “El-Set Ehsan” and her daughters in law, are still clinging to the craft despite its challenges. It tells the story of how they started this handcraft, their challenges, and the significance of their creations.

Nariman Khaled is a passionate youth leader, media professional, and advocate for social change. As a member of Egypt’s Coordination Committee of Party’s Youth Leaders and Politicians (CPYP) and a representative in Egypt’s global political delegation, she plays a pivotal role in strengthening strategic international relations and promoting Egypt’s voice worldwide. Khaled also served as Egypt’s Tourism Ambassador, showcasing the nation’s beauty and cultural significance on the global stage. With a master’s in television and digital journalism, she combines her expertise in media and politics to raise awareness on critical social issues.
Currently, as an MC and in Media Relations at United Media Services, she continues to inspire others to take meaningful action for positive change.
Nariman’s documentary “Ladies of the Palace” won an award of excellence in the BEA’s 2024 Festival of Media Arts in the documentary category.
“Ladies of the Palace” is a gripping documentary that unveils the harsh realities of homeless women, amplifying their voices to ignite empathy and action. Through raw, unfiltered storytelling, it shatters misconceptions and demands a more compassionate world.
