Universities Unite: Combating Harassment on Campus

Clarissa Humphreys

Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Manager, Durham University

Clarissa Humphreys is the Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Manager at Durham University. She is a practitioner and leading authority on addressing gender-based violence in Higher Education and was the first person to hold a dedicated role in this area in the UK (August 2016). She is responsible for policy development, case management, student support, and prevention and training. She is an experienced trainer and has developed and delivered courses covering topics such as understanding sexual violence in Higher Education, responding to disclosures, and conducting trauma-informed investigations. In 2018, she was recognized for her work with students by Durham Students’ Union and was awarded Best Student Support. The following year, she was recognized by Durham University through Durham Women Making a Difference. Prior to this role, she gained extensive professional experience working as a forensic mental health social worker in England and as a Licensed Master Social Worker and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counsellor in Texas. She has worked with survivors and perpetrators of domestic abuse and sexual violence and with individuals with acute mental illness and co-occurring substance use issues. Additionally, she has both case management and clinical experience, which includes providing group and individual therapy utilizing predominantly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). With Graham Towl, she is the author of a forthcoming book Addressing Student Sexual Violence in Higher Education: A Good Practice Guide (Emerald Publishing, Spring 2020).

Reem El-Mograby '09

Office of Institutional Equity Director and Title IX Coordinator, AUC

Reem El-Mograby '09 is the Director and Title IX Coordinator at the Office of Institutional Equity. At this position, El-Mograby ensures that the Anti-Harassment and Non-Discrimination policy and its procedures are run as per the policy. She works closely with university administrators to coordinate the University's response to reports under the policy. Where appropriate, El-Mograby will provide to both parties information on options for obtaining advocacy, medical and counseling services, and will assist with providing information on other resources. Prior to this position, El-Mograby managed the Office of Student Conduct and Community Relations and was the Coordinator of the Student Ambassador program.  El-Mograby also acted as a liaison between the University and the AUC Parents Associations. El-Mograby holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer from the American University in Cairo and is currently an MBA candidate.

Yousef Hashem

President, AUC's Debate Society

Youssef Hashem is a junior at AUC, majoring in economics and minoring in entrepreneurship. He is also the president of the AUC Debate Society. Hashem’s experience in student activities goes back to his freshmen year when he began contributing in the most prominent AUC student clubs and organizations. He previously held the position of general manager for the Student Union’s Initiatives and Exposure Project, and he is the former head of quality and tactics control for the Cairo International Model United Nations.

Sunanda Holmes is AUC's first general counsel and chief compliance officer. She spearheads both strategy and its implementation across our many lines of management operations and services, making use of her extensive background in international higher education institutional compliance matters in the U.S. and the Middle East.
