Strategy Management
The Strategy Management function at AUC ensures University-wide alignment with the institutional strategic priorities by fostering collaboration and facilitating an annual planning cycle. This process transforms institutional goals into actionable plans, driving cohesive success across all units.
AUC’s Strategic Priorities Roadmap
The Strategic Priorities Roadmap at AUC, developed by University leadership, is built around four core pillars: student-centered culture, academic excellence, future of work: extended education, and civic engagement. These pillars represent essential dimensions of the University’s mission to foster innovation, inclusivity, and societal impact. They guide initiatives across the University, ensuring institutional priorities are effectively integrated into unit-level strategies and projects.
AUC’s strategic priorities roadmap forms the cornerstone of AUC’s institutional planning efforts. The annual planning cycle supports translating these priorities into actionable unit-level plans, ensuring alignment across the University.
Annual Planning Cycle
The strategy management team develops and maintains an annual planning cycle in coordination with various stakeholders to align departmental plans with the University’s strategic priorities. This involves engaging in discussions with the President, Provost, and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to develop a communication plan for the annual planning process. Consultation sessions and workshops are also provided to assist University units and departments in developing their goals and objectives, identifying high-level resources, and setting their KPIs and targets.
Key Phases of the Annual Planning Cycle
- Communication: A communication email announcement for the kick-off of the annual planning cycle is sent to all University stakeholders. The announcement includes process guidelines and deadlines.
- Strategic Alignment: Academic and non-academic areas start aligning their goals with AUC’s institutional priorities, creating a unified direction.
- Plan Development: Areas and units develop their plans, outlining goals, objectives, actionable strategies, key performance indicators, and the required resources.
- Plan Submission: Plans are submitted to the strategy management team through the planning software: compliance assist.
Support Provided During the Annual Planning Cycle
To facilitate the successful execution of the annual planning cycle, the strategy management team provides a range of targeted support services designed to guide and empower University units throughout the process:
- Consultation Services: Units can request one-on-one sessions with the strategy management team to address challenges, align strategies, and refine their plans.
- Strategic Planning Workshops: Hands-on workshops equip units with the tools and methodologies necessary for effective planning. These sessions enhance strategic planning awareness, introduce best practices, and provide actionable insights to overcome common challenges.
- Strategic Plan Reviews: The strategy management team conducts a thorough review to the departments plans through the development of detailed review rubrics. These review rubrics ensure that each plan is well-structured, aligned with institutional priorities, and includes measurable outcomes.
- Planning Resources: The strategy management team provides standardized templates, guidelines, and resources to simplify the planning process and maintain consistency across all units.
- Ongoing Support: Throughout the year, the strategy management team remains available to address inquiries, provide feedback, and offer guidance to ensure successful plan execution and alignment.
