New Cairo Neighborhood
The New Cairo neighborhood is known for its fresh air and calmness. The AUC campus is within walking distance, offering facilities such as a small grocery market and an extensive sports complex. A lot of entertainment options and commercial areas are functioning in the area. In addition, AUC has established a special shuttle bus from the new housing site to commercial areas nearby.
There are schools in the New Cairo area, including the New Cairo British International School, the Canadian International School, the Modern English School and the American International School. These schools usually provide transportation, but checking with them while registering is always wise.

Maadi Neighborhood
Maadi neighborhood is 10 kilometers (six miles) south of downtown Cairo and 20 km (12 miles) southwest of AUC New Cairo.
Maadi offers family-oriented activities. The easiest transportation to downtown Cairo is by metro. The AUC bus service to the New Cairo Campus takes around 50 minutes, depending on the time of day. Afternoon return trips may require more time owing to traffic congestion. This service is free for faculty and staff.
There are many private international schools, including Cairo American College, the French Lycée and the Maadi British International School. There are also several nurseries, such as The Preschool Years, Irish Nursery, Small Talk and Small World.
Location of Housing Buildings
The new AUC housing site is at the center of the New Cairo area, close to AUC New Cairo and only 500 meters (550 yards) from Gate 4. The ring road passes along the western edge of New Cairo. Travel times from other areas of Cairo are roughly expected to range from approximately 40 minutes (Maadi, Heliopolis and Nasr City) to an hour (Garden City and Downtown), possibly longer for Zamalek. Afternoon return trips to some areas may require more time because of traffic congestion. AUC buses run throughout the day. Learn more information on transportation and bus schedules here.
Faculty members are encouraged to visit the housing site by making an appointment with the Housing Office at [email protected].

While individual and family needs will be taken into account when approving requests for specific apartments, it may not be possible to meet all requests or preferences simply because housing availability is limited. An application/request process is in place to ensure fair allocation and to optimize the match between what is requested and available.
