Subject: Reducing our COVID-19 Restrictions
As we enter the third week of the Fall 2022 semester, we are happy to report that vaccination rates of our faculty, students and staff is at almost 98%. At the same time, the rates of COVID-19 cases continue to remain extremely low. Based on these factors, I announced in Thursday’s Campus Conversation we will be reducing some of our current restrictions and facilitating a smoother access to campus for everyone.

In relation to the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), to be hosted by Egypt in Sharm El Sheikh in November 2022, I am pleased to announce the formation of a university-wide Task Force for AUC's participation in COP27. The Task Force is mandated with developing a master plan for the participation of AUC in COP27, comprising all activities taking place, or planned to take place, at AUC in this regard.

Following a rigorous search process over the past year, I am delighted to announce that President Ahmad Dallal and AUC’s Board of Trustees have approved my recommendation to appoint Dr. Noha El-Mikawy as the Dean of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. Dr. El-Mikawy will be joining AUC as the Dean of GAPP on August 1, 2022

Subject: Mental Health Initiative Kickoff Event
Mental health and wellbeing are critically important for our campus community. Before the global pandemic, studies have shown a considerable increase in mental health challenges throughout the world, and the need to address mental health has especially been a growing trend in universities. In the last two years, COVID-19 severely impacted the mental health of university students and communities and raised our awareness of the need to address these challenges.

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the death of AUC student Ali Saeed Ahmed Al-Batati. An international student from Yemen, Ali was a junior, majoring in political science and a resident of the dorms on campus. He passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022.
