About WEC
Mission
The WEC program provides a structure for departments for developing, implementing, assessing, and revising a writing plan designed specifically by and for individual departments.
Vision
To enhance students’ proficiency with professional communication in their specialized fields of study by enriching their learning experiences in the various disciplines.
Objectives
Collaborate with partners within specific departments to collect data about writing and speaking in specific courses in their programs, student disciplinary communication competencies and level of confidence, and disciplinary knowledge and expectations for student multimodal communication.
Support key faculty partners to set and achieve outcomes for their department through individual course consultations, development of tailored teaching materials and resources, faculty development workshops, curriculum mapping, faculty surveys, and other approaches (development of individualized writing plans).
Equipping faculty teams with tools to assess the implementation of their department’s writing plan in the pilot stages, identify gaps, and make recommendations for development of the plan.
Advance the gradual expansion of customized department writing plans through many iterations, through the implementation of WEC across schools to include multiple departments, and by targeting sustainable long-term practices.
